I spent a while shopping on Hawthorne today at a couple resale clothing shops, finding several great things of course, when I came across these girls and their damn great combos. I ,as usual, didn’t ask where everything came from but it can be assumed that most if not all is resale and “vintage” (unless I see them again and ask). Of all the people on Hawthorne it was hard to find anyone worth taking a photo of, some peoples outfits seem so preconcived based on what they think everyone else is wearing and what will get them the most attention from people who also dress the same. It’s rare to see anyone with a really random creative outfit… id say “these days” but I cant say that because its more like “ever”. Portland’s got a serious hipnes infection and needs to be reminded that fashion can be fun and not just something people fight to keep up to date on (although half the styles I see around haven’t changed since I moved away 2 years ago, ahem tight pants clever shirts, bicicle messenger hats and adidas/converse/pony/etc). Comon Portland, fuck it up a little bit, you’re getting behind the rest of the world in the simple fashion movement of “doing whatever you fucking want and doing it well”. Being independent in you’re clothing somehow got turned into dressing like everyone else again, something that happens to every eras great styles, they take off, then they’re main stream, and who the hell wants to be that?

Plaid
I never really thought I would say it but, plaid is finally cool, at least for a little while. I never got into the grunge era, looking like a slob was never appealing although holey jeans never got old, as long as they were tight enough. I finally caved after seeing plaid make its come back over the last few months and bought a pair of plaid leggings from a girl in germany ( www.thecoveted.net ). They’re high waisted so they’ll work as pants or under skirts and no matter how i wear them, their tackyness will shine in any situation really. I’m pretty damn happy with them, now I need to find a jacket maybe, although that might be going to far into the plaid realms, one item per person, and especially per outfit, should suffice.

Quote form the photo:
“Since I ride to work on the bike I wanted to show you this red wind sculpture. I totally like the shape, and the way it is always changing. It’s just quite hard to take a nice photo there. But today the sun was just right, I discovered this gap between the trees, and even a little wall to put up my camera. Now the only drawback is that due to the perspective it looks like it’s less then 2 feet high. Guess how high it really is, then look at my note to find out.
Nothing too special about the outfit. Same old cap from Karstadt, C&A t-shirt and skirt, 2nd hand vest you can almost not make out under the denim jacket from Bon Prix. And the orange cotton china flats I bought on ebay.
The pendant is new, I bought it this weekend on a small arts and crafts market. It’s made of seeds and nuts with bits of turquoise and opal. Really extraordinary!”
