Nerdsday: Deconstruction Threads

Deconstruction Clothing is the Nerdsday feature of the week. Fonts and creative use of text has always been a fairly geeky thing and that’s why we love it so much. The company started in April ’09 with the combined powers of some University of Idaho friends on a mission to make designs that make us think. Influenced from the world, art, music, design, and the modern human condition. Remembering their roots, and looking to the future while they live in the moment – Deconstruction Clothing wins my weekly vote for Nerdsday feature.
Check out a couple of their designs and browse their site, cross your fingers we’ll soon have a promotion for you to get some sweet Deconstruction threads!

Decontruction Clothing, Womens

Decontruction Clothing, Mens

They have both men’s and women’s styles in a variety of designs.

A Bagslag’s Dream!

Bagslag is an independent handbag design brand created in 2003 by Lee Sylvester.

Lee has worked as a clothing and accessories designer for Sergio Tacchini, Puma and Umbro, clothing sports stars such as David Beckham and the England Football Team – but she wanted to focus on her passion for bags.

I was recently contacted by this company as I often am, but what stood out first was their name. Bagslag is one of the most clever names I’ve heard in a while for a company, especially a bag company. I haven’t actually seen a bagslag bag but aside from the name being so clever, their designs are pretty clever as well.

My personal favorite is the Tracey designer bag and – considering it is designer..technically.. the price is definitely not the kind you shy away from. This has become a signature piece for the label. It’s made from a spiral cut piece of leather fastened together with a long zip wrapping around the bag. It’s made from leather clutch sized, nickel metal zip fastening with leather strap and rivets. Fully lined in Hot Pink Taffeta. Featuring a long continuous zip which fully opens out the bag. Who’s thought of that, I ask you?! Wont be losing anything inside this bag.

Bagslag bags rock! />

The tracey is a little bit punk, a little bit rock & roll and a whole lot of pink. Things I like very much. If they ever felt like sending me a sample *hint* this would be the one.

It also comes in black, silver and white, also great colors for any time of day.

Also, just in. If you sign up with their newsletter you’ll get a special holiday promo on their items. They also offer fast shipping for those of us NOT in the UK.

Flying Mouse Designs

I first heard about Flying Mouse (artist Hon Lam) when I bought a t-shirt with his design on it from Threadless.com about a year ago. Since then, he has started his own website and has partaken in a project most designers would call impossible. “The FM 365 Store is the result of Flying Mouse’s (Hon Lam) Project of doing one design per day for a whole year! Every week there will be 7 new products available! These 7 new products will be available for a quick pre-sale at a lower price for the entire week and once the week ends there will be 7 newer products to replace them and so on. These designs are printed on super-soft American Apparel tees so you can wear your favorite Flying Mouse designs in comfort everywhere you go!”

Hon Lam has won numerous Threadless.com awards such as 3 Threadless Bestees for “Most Printed Designer 2007″, “Newcomer Of The Year 2007″, and “Best Concept For A Design 2007“, making him more than the average Hon.

His website features a constant stream of clever and beautiful designs, backgrounds for your desktop and an archive of past designs.

His latest series of 7 has some great designs but you’ll have to check them out here. By the time you read this some of you may have missed the ones from this week! I’ll show you my favorites anyway but get on over to his site and sigh up for his newsletter to be kept updated on his limited time sales!

Also make sure to check out his blog which can be found on the Flying Mouse homepage!

Stevieboi found the future

Somewhere between the invention of the rocket bra and the self drying jacket in Back to the Future, we lost sight of the importance of future forward fashion. Sure we have iPhones and robots on mars but as soon as we figured we could just pretend people in the future wore different clothing than ‘today’, we stopped working towards it in reality. “Future people” became something we were no longer responsible for, but really, that’s us dammit! WE are supposed to dress like Mad Max or Blade Runner! And to quote Futurama, “Welcome to the land of tomorrow!”. Maybe adding variations to our outfits, beyond the last 30 years of the same basic things in different colors and layers, we could start doing this future thing? just a little?

Here’s a start! Meet Stevie Boi. Sporting his own independent label, artist Steven C. Strawder has been exceeding the expectations of the present and future with his innovative art sunglasses and frames. Each piece is handmade with an obvious dedication to pushing the boundaries of fashion as we know it. Are they anti-radiation? I don’t know. But it would be worth finding out to be the only one sporting a pair with my new 80s Reebok’s. An true 80s ‘future’. … hmm, I can live with that.
