Back to Basics: Clothing Items Every Woman Needs

We know that there are some things that you just have to have in your closet to be able to say you’re ready for any occasion. It’s not only one of the pillars of having your life together, but it gives you a certain piece of mind, knowing that you have something to wear every day. The key is to only hold pieces that you are comfortable in and that you enjoy wearing. If you have a wardrobe full of staples that are ill-fitting or uncomfortable, you might as well throw them all out. So let’s see what are the staples that every woman should have:

Plain T-shirts

Sounds boring? That’s almost the point of them. Basic T-shirts that fit you well and have a flattering neckline can be a base for absolutely any outfit. Wear them with jeans for a casual look, with a pair of pants and a jacket for business-casual or dress them up with jewelry and heels for an easy nighttime look. They don’t have to just come in black and white, either. You can have a rainbow of solid-color tees that will make sure your outfits look fun and different while still being appropriate for any occasion.

Tailored pants and jacket

There comes a time when you have to put on your big girl pants – and by that I mean a pair of structured, well fitted pants and a power suit jacket to match. They are a must-have for any woman who works in a professional environment, or needs the right outfit for a business occasion. It commands respect and can make you feel empowered. The trick with this is getting the right fit. There’s two ways to go about this: you can either find a pair you love and buy a size up, then take them to your tailor to get them perfectly fitted, or you can go straight to your tailor and have them make you a suit that will be perfection. Ladies, do not be afraid to make friends with your tailor, it will make a world of a difference.

Jeans

Who today can live without jeans? They’re the perfect pairing to any outfit and can instantly be dressed up or down by adding the right shoes and accessories. All you have to do is find the right style. Do you want skinny jeans, or something more relaxed like boyfriend jeans? Straight leg can work great if you’re taller and want something classic, but try to avoid flare bottoms, because saying they’re out of style is an understatement. Try to look for a plain wash with minimum or no distressing to make sure you can wear them for any occasion and have a few outfits planned that you can throw on (let’s remember the plain T-shirts we mentioned before).

Fancy dress

Got a last-minute wedding invitation? Or a cocktail party you completely forgot about? Don’t worry! That is, don’t worry if you have a dress ready and waiting. Choose a little black dress, a Marilyn-style dress or an elegant jumpsuit and you’ll never have to worry again. To avoid the inner conflict of wearing the same dress “too many times”, save it only for the special occasions and have a few different ways to style it to change it up.

Jacket

When the weather gets colder, it doesn’t matter how cute of an outfit you have underneath if the jacket that’s covering it isn’t giving off the same vibe. There’s no point in freezing in a thin cardigan because you don’t have an appropriate jacket, so make sure you have something that is appropriate for any occasion and that fits you well, all while keeping you warm. Something like a black coat is perfect, and if it has a removable lining, you can wear it through both winter and fall. You can also consider alternatives, like a poncho, that will help you put a personal stamp on your outfit. Make sure you have winter accessories like gloves, scarves and caps to match.

Having a wardrobe full of staples means you always have a base to build an outfit on, and you will never go too far into something crazy if you have a staple piece as one of the key elements. Make sure that pieces, even though basic, match your style and give you a way to express yourself.
