Fashion Trends Making a Comeback

We’ve all witnessed fashion trends come in and come out.  This is, in many ways, the very nature of fashion… yet there are some trends that keep bouncing back and this article looks at three fashion trends currently making a comeback.

Keeping up with current trends can be a minefield.  Fashion, however, is a curious thing that unlike technology which advances at a phenomenal pace where we are unlikely to see a resurgence of video players to replace our modern iPhones, fashion is a little more nostalgic and cyclical.

This article explores some of the most current resurgent fashion trends that are making a comeback both on the high street and the catwalk.

BRIGHT RED LIPSTICK

Albeit, rather daring, bright red lipstick was particularly popular in the 1940 and 1950s due to Marilyn Monroe’s influence.  The classic red trend faded, as new colours were introduced and people started to become more experimental in the Swinging Sixties, but today, with some of the largest names in Hollywood, such as Taylor Swift following in Marilyn Monroe’s footsteps by wearing bright red lipstick, this trend has boomeranged back into fashion.

PEARLS VS. DIAMONDS

Marilyn Monroe once said that Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but does this carry as much weight today as it did back then?

Whilst a traditional diamond necklace or dazzling engagement ring, like those found at https://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/tacori/ are unlikely to go amiss as a pairing to your favourite little black dress, vintage is now creeping back into our lives, and as pearls have always been associated with a sign of class and prestige, many celebrities and royalty alike are bringing pearls back into the limelight.

There is somewhat of an archaic perception of pearls, however, particularly when thinking of the Queen of England with the two strands of pearls that are rarely removed from her neck.  However, the Duchess of Cambridge recently wore a simple set of pearl earrings whilst attending a tour of Australia, and even this week, she was spotted wearing a pearl necklace to the Queen’s 70th anniversary party which was once worn by Princess Diana.

Walk down any fashionable high street and you’ll be met with flashes of diamonds, from many a shop window, and unless you break the bank to furnish yourself with a unique cut of diamond, it’s unlikely to be anything that different to the next girl you meet on the high street… whereas, pearls are unique.

LEGGINGS

Leggings were absolutely huge in the 1980s, and today, they are coming back with gusto!  Indeed, you would be hard pressed to find a workout video from the 1980s and nineties where the instructor was not wearing a colourful pair of leggings… even the men.

Today, it would appear leggings are almost taking the place of trousers, in that they are no longer restricted to use in the gym, they serve the purpose of half-trouser and half-tights, turning what could otherwise receive a shock reaction due to being so skimpily clad, into a perfectly normal outfit due to their dark colour.
