First Thursday, From Radishes to Compounds

Every month Portland has a first Thursday and last Thursday art walk. First Thursday is in the hipper downtown Pearl District, which has over the years bleed into the general area around Pearl as well – last Thursday takes place on the more laid back artsy Alberta street. I haven’t had a chance to go in a while but I was invited to check out the party going on at Radish Underground, a cute little boutique with a pretty great location on 10th st (This may not mean much to you if you don;t live in Portland, not many of you do, but lucky for you you can shop them online). Radish Underground was hosting a little party featuring Erhart Streetwear, a local, and totally awesome designer I just happen to speak about quite often.

Free drinks, great fashion and plenty of well dressed people later we ended up on a miniature shopping spree at Radish and one of my favorite stores in the entire world (no lie) Compound Gallery. Not only does Compound carry two of my favorite designers of all time, Stussy and Hellz Bellz, they also carry my beloved Dunny’s and tons of other toys, rare import Nike’s, hard to find art books, graffiti collections, specialty art & designer magazines – and they feature talented Japanese artists every month in their gallery. I spend at least 2 days a week either eyeballing the front window or meandering around inside wishing I had $1000 to blow. Ive been going there so long and regularly that the owner recognizes me no matter what I’m wearing or what color my hair is – even when I moved to Argentina for a year his response was “haven’t seen you in a while, where you been?”.   Today the store won my battle to save cash and we came home with 3 Stussy shirts and a Nike fanny pack. As soon as I get paid I’m going back for some kitchen kitsch for my RV (which I am redesigning to the max).   Check them out, its a win win for everyone.
