The Prom Attire Checklist Every Street Chic Girl Needs

When prom season rolls around, every girl is on the hunt for the perfect look. And that perfect look is one that separates you from the pack and lets your personality and sense of style shine through.

Making a real and memorable statement is easier than you think. This checklist covers everything you need to complete your prom look and some tips on how to choose what’s right for you.

Dress

Next to picking your date, the dress is the most important prom decision you will make. And when it comes to choosing a dress, the first thing you should do is consider what you actually want and the shape of your body.

Some dress styles will flatter your body more than others. For example, if you are a pear shape, you will want to find a dress that highlights your waist and draws attention to your upper body. The “rules” that are applied to body type are not hard and fast, but they may help you narrow down your options. There is nothing more discouraging than trying on a bunch of dresses that just don’t work so why not start your search with the most likely options?

Once you’ve found the style and cut of dress that works best for you, the real fun begins. From here, you can decide on the colour and fabric that will best demonstrate your personal style.

Shoes

When it comes to choosing shoes, you need to think about height. This means your height, your date’s height (if you have one), and the height of your heel. If you are tall, and want to disguise it a little, or if your date is short, you may want to consider a shorter heel or a flat.

On the flip side, if you are short and want to appear taller, than you will want to create the illusion of height with your shoe. Once you’ve decided on height, you can get creative with the style and colour. If you have chosen a black dress, for example, you can go with a bright or bold colour.

Just be careful not to choose a colour that is going to compete with the dress, you definitely want it to be the focal point.

Accessories

Accessories can give your outfit that luxurious finishing touch and covers everything from jewellery to tiaras, to handbags. You will want to shine and sparkle but you don’t want to remind people of a disco ball either. Remember, balance is key.

Go with gold pieces if you are wearing an earth or jewel-toned dress. Silver is perfect for pastel tones. If your dress is sequined or in a shimmery fabric, choose more subtle jewellery like diamond studs or a simple neck chain. If the details of the dress are minimal, a larger statement necklace may be in order. If you are wearing your hair in an updo, consider wearing dramatic drop earrings as your statement piece.

Just remember that you don’t want to overdo it. If you are wearing a statement necklace, keep your earrings simple and vice versa.
