Packing Cubes

First up we have packing cubes, an absolute game changer when it comes to packing for your vacation. You can buy sets with different sizes and then sort your vacation clothes into piles for each of the cubes. They help you to contain clothes into a smaller space, so you can fit more in. Everything is super organised, so when you arrive, unpacking is much easier. Instead of having to pack and unpack multiple times to fit everything in, you just need to rearrange the cubes to find the right fit.

If you are going on a vacation where you need lots of layers, like skiing, then you can get vacuum packing cubes where you can suck all of the air out with a vacuum, so any excess air is removed and you can fit much more in. People are often skeptical of packing cubes, as they see it as adding more unnecessary things to the suitcase. However, the space they help to save makes it all worth it in the end!

Roll Don’t Fold!

Our next tip to help you save lots of space in your suitcase is to roll instead of fold. Rolling saves space in your bag, it makes everything easier to see, you won’t have as many creases, you can make sure you are filling every small corner of the bag and it makes it easier to live out of your suitcase if you are only on your trip for a couple of days.

Rolling is great for thin items like t-shirts, swimwear, gym crop tops or dresses, but less good for bulky clothing like sweaters, so put those into a vacuum bag instead. If you decide to use packing cubes, rolling also helps you to maximise the space you have in each of them! Overall, give rolling a go and you won’t look back.

Plan Your Outfits

Another thing you should always do to help you save space is to plan your outfits. If you just throw everything you think you might want to wear on your trip, you are very unlikely to end up wearing some of it, which is just wasted space. So, figure out how many daytime and evening outfits you’ll need, swimwear and any outfits for special occasions, like a festival or a beach party.

Lay everything out on your bed, with a small pile for each day you’re out there. You will probably rewear some days and that’s absolutely fine, but as long as you have a clear idea of what you will be wearing, you just need to pack that and will save so much space.

Travel In Your Heaviest/Biggest Pieces

Last but not least, you should always travel in your heaviest or biggest pieces. This might be your ski jacket and snow boots or your heaviest wedged sandals. Plan what you are travelling in in advance and set it aside and you will clear up a significant amount of space in your suitcase! This can be a real game changer when it comes to packing.
