Photos of the Day: Black is the New Black

Black will always be my favorite “color” – always. When my teachers would tell me “Black isn’t a color” I would reply, “well, then I don’t have one, I like black”, much to their disappointment.  As years went by I grew to like other colors, gold, yellow, hot pink… but they were always accompanied by black. My boots are always black, my coats are always black, but everything in between is allowed a little more leeway. I do prefer grey jeans to blue ones and most of my favorite t-shirts are black, but I try and bring a little color…

Style and Tattoos: Never Live in Regret

For many of us, our style and tattoos are an integral part of who we are. We could wear sweats, a tank top and slippers, and still feel like we look ok because our always present pieces of art are there, doing their thing, separating us from the masses. Some of you might prefer to look from afar, wincing at the thought of the pain involved in a tattoo or just preferring to be “free and clean” – either way, it’s ok. Tattoos are certainly not for everyone. What you choose for a tattoo doesn’t have to be all that…

Punk Rock Japan

I’ve never think of Japan when I think of punk rock and denim, but here it is! A new trend in Tokyo seems to be a bit of Americana. Maybe not as much as in the 80s when a pair of Levis 501’s would go for hundreds (as a kid I thought I’d make a living selling denim to Japan) on any given day or when one of the “coolest” things ever were tees and sweatshirts with Micky or Minnie Mouse on them. This might be a step in the right direction though, price and taste wise, not that I don’t…

Photos of the day: Christmas Inspired in Russia

I have to say, I’ve been thinking seriously about moving to Russia these days. I even looked into how much the Trans-Siberian Railway trip would cost – not cheap but it could be a great peek into life in Russia while on a classy and historic train ride. I also love the street style in Russia, minus the fur (which can easily be faked). It’s 2 degrees where I am right now so as it is a Friday, I plan to bundle up well, and pretend I’m in a Siberian bar – dreaming of Russian Lolita style dresses. Christmas inspired…

Photo of the day, Oct 20th – Japan

Furry Hat & Big Bow in Shibuya Took a photo of this Japanese girl at Shibuya Crossing. The parts of her outfit that first caught my attention were her furry hat with a huge bow, torn striped stockings, and fur boots or heels with fur leg warmers (which are very popular right now in Tokyo). This is part of a series of random street snaps I’m shooting during JFW. By tokyofashion
