When you think of a person that enjoys literature, vintage art, coffee shops, alternative clothing, rocks aman-bun/beard combo, is covered with tattoos, and only consumes organically grown products, what is the first thought that pops in your head? “Oh great, that guy must be another one of those hipsters”, you might think. But, what is a hipster? Decades ago, the term for hipster meant something totally different than it does now. As defined by early hipster guru, Norman Mailer, becoming a hipster is “to divorce oneself from society, to exist without roots, to set out on that uncharted journey into…

Selfie Sticks Are the Biggest Travel Pet Peeve of 2015
From inconsiderate passengers to social media over sharers, travel-dating site, MissTravel.com releases its list of “The Biggest Travel Pet Peeves of 2015.” According to the survey, it’s time to leave the Selfie Sticks at home, with a majority of respondents complaining about other travelers using the device while on vacation. Travel can be an exciting, often life changing experience, but sometimes other travelers can be very, very annoying, nearly ruining your fun if you let them. For anyone who’s been a touristy city or locale during the peak season, they will understand what I mean. Travel-dating site, MissTravel.com asked more than…
Photo of the day: Springing Yellow in the Street
Lots of sources keep saying that this year’s thing is Neon and whether it is because we were told so, or because it is, neon has been showing up everywhere, in stores, on the streets and I’m totally cool with that. Ever since I can remember I’ve loved neon and although many people associate it with the 80s, why? It’s a 2012 thing now, the 80s can’t have it anymore, and with the designs coming out in neon, most of them nothing like 80s style in shape or style. Yellow is one of my favorite trending colors right now, a…
Photos of the Day: It’s Always Hot in America del Sur
Although the temperature varies greatly throughout south america, from its towering Andes to arid deserts, steaming jungles and glaciers the size of U.S. states, Fashion is always hot in South America, if you know where to go. The larger cities of course being the most connected with the world and having also their own inventive style, trends, music and even celebrities. It’s easy to take advantage of what we know nothing about but don’t forget about South America when looking for your next look, not only will it be different than many styles you come across but it will represent…
Blog Find: Vista La Calle Santiago, Chile
Looking around for some new street fashion blogs from Milan, with no luck, we found the well established VLC (Viste la Calle) from Santiago, Chile. Use google chrome if you must to translate the site but in general, street fashion goes beyond language and that’s why I love it so much. VLC includes a gallery of street fashion photos, great blogs on the fashion world, trends and inspiration (you may need chrome for this part) and all from a South American perspective. I can’t believe I haven’t come across this site yet in all the years of SFW (that’s us)….
Paper Wallet, a Fashionable Earth Day Solution!
No one can deny that everyone is getting really serious about eco friendly style and something that goes hand in hand with eco-fashion these days, is simplicity. Just in time for earth day and in the spirit of saving money (only $9-$13.50 with my promo code streetfashion) and the planet, Paper Wallet is my choice for 2010. Paper Wallet proves you don’t have to be a hippie to be eco friendly. I spent the last 10 years in Portland, Oregon. A place that although hip in ways, has given environmental fashion a bad name. Between hippie-wear, the overstock of olive…
The New Vintage Trend
Enjoy the influx of 80s colors and designs while they’re around and cheap but don’t forget your vintage shops, etsy stores or ebay stores. The companies might be giving us things the vintage shops cant and cheaper, but you can never replace a real 80s piece, many of which no company can ever imitate.
Keeping Street Fashion Fresh
Originality One of the biggest problems with any great style is if it becomes too popular it becomes a trend. This isn’t necessarily horrible, but in most cases, and in most places, trends can ruin the feeling of originality people have when they create their own style. Honestly, there’s probably not many original things people can come up with anymore which is why printed t-shirts featuring original art manage to maintain popularity. Fashion can imitate art but not all art is wearable like it is if its on a t-shirt. There are designers that really push the bar and make…
