New Yorkers know their fashion and beauty – always impeccably stylish, yet brash and in-your-face, but in such a way that doesn’t make you feel any lesser. When you see a New Yorker, there’s this elated feeling of motivation, you just want to be like them, and you feel like you can – whether you dress all designer or thrift shop – you know you can achieve it without getting into debt. The NY fashion week is behind us and here’s what we’ve learned this year.
Oversized is here to stay

Winters in NYC can be brutal, but no despair – you just need a baggy coat and a pair of boots and you’ll instantly feel more like you belong on the spread of The Vogue. Pastel colors are back, together with oversized teddy coats and wide leg trousers. As for prints, anything goes but leopard always sounds good. Dare to be in-your-face and creative – that’s always been the way of the New Yorkers.
Monochromes are back

Remember the unicolored suit your mother used to wear? So elegant, yet commanding at the same time? Well, one-colored suits are back and this time, you get to pick your own color – whether it’s lemon yellow or champagne – it’s not important, as long as you stick to it, and in return, it’ll make you stand out in the crowd.
Long hair is the thing
Whatever you do, don’t cut your hair, at least not much. Braids are officially in the game, and you have permission to wear them as you please. Slick or in a bun, it doesn’t really matter. Other hairstyles that we will be seeing this year are curls, grungy long hair-dos, and crystal headgear.
Shiny is the new nude
Nude shades are still popular, but from what we’ve gathered from this year’s fashion week, this trend might take a seat in favor of bolder, shinier shades of eyeshadows and lipsticks.
Turquoise blue, and pink dominated this year, together with smoky eyes and glittery eyeshadows.
Parties were on point, as always

If you ever happen to be in New York, you know it’s time to party. Whether it’s a fancy Manhattan bar or a cool warehouse rave in Brooklyn, it was always packed and of course, fashionable. Cocktails were pouring and the secret that any good expert in mixology from NYC will tell you is – surprise your guests. The more unusual the combination, the more hype your place will get. And in NYC, the hype is almost everything. Use different types of ice and extravagant glasses to lure your guests in, but make them stay with delicious combinations of ingredients. Music was typically New York, from old school hip-hop, to trap and EDM.
Celebrities led the game, of course
In case you were wondering, yes, there were a lot of our celebrity faves. From Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid to Karlie Kloss and Zoe Saldana – first rows were packed with stylish celebrities enjoying the shows and after parties. There were some brilliant style choices, and some less fortunate ones, too.
That’s what New York fashionistas wear these days, you may like some new upcoming trends, or not, but one thing’s for sure – if it’s good enough for New Yorkers, it’s enough for the rest of us.
